Central Florida Commission on Homelessness to Release Full Report on Family Homelessness in Central Florida

WHAT: On Tuesday, Oct. 27, Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs will lead members of the Central Florida Commission on Homelessness (CFCH) and community leaders from throughout the region to Salt Lake City, Utah for a fact-finding mission about Salt Lake’s unique approach to impacting family homelessness. Mayor Jacobs will launch the trip with a press conference to release the full report on family homelessness, commissioned by Orange County. The report, titled, “The Current State of Family Homelessness in Central Florida” includes new data on family homelessness in Central Florida, as well as the local housing market.

Later today, the Family Homelessness Committee of the CFCH will host a special workshop. The workshop will feature Barbara Poppe, a nationally-recognized expert on homelessness; Poppe is the former executive director of the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, and the primary researcher and author of “The Current State of Family Homelessness in Central Florida.”

The Family Homelessness Committee of the CFCH was established by Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs in November 2014. Dick Batchelor was appointed to lead the Family Homelessness Committee, which has held numerous public meetings and hearings, including a presentation from Lloyd Pendleton, Director of The State of Utah’s Homeless Task Force and numerous other experts.
