Mayor Jacobs Launches Annual Summer of Service Initiative
Summer Of Services

Orange County, FL – Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs announced today the start of the 2014 Summer of Service initiative, a month-long project featuring volunteer service events and opportunities through which citizens can become involved to serve their community. This is the third year of the program.

Kicking-off on the first day of summer, Saturday, June 21, and running through July 19, Mayor Jacobs’ Summer of Service is a call to action for Orange County citizens to make a commitment for at least one community service activity. The initiative begins with a storm drain labeling training session on Tuesday, June 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Environmental Protection Division office located at 800 Mercy Drive in Orlando. Volunteers will take part in the Orange County Environmental Volunteer and Internship Program (eVIP) and learn how communities can help to keep surface water clean and storm drains functioning properly. Additional activities are scheduled throughout the month.

Individuals and groups are able to choose from events taking place across Orange County as well as seek information on activities occurring year-round. The public may explore these opportunities by visiting www.ocfl.net and clicking on the Summer of Service icon or by calling (407) 836-7370 for additional information.
