Orange County, FL - Mayor Teresa Jacobs is pleased to announce the appointment of Ann Marie Varga as the Orange County Communications Division Manager.
Ms. Varga currently helps manage public relations and media relations for Duke Energy Corporation where she develops and implements media relations and communication strategies on specific issues and provides counsel to senior leaders. She is a seasoned professional with experience in a variety of industries including tourism, banking, academia and utilities.
Ms. Varga also chairs the 19-member Florida Communications Council. The Council is designed to enhance communication outreach and implement the Florida Reputation and Partnership Plan. She directs and manages Duke’s efforts in support of the plan. Prior to working for Duke Energy, Ms. Varga served as the assistant vice president of public relations and community affairs at Rollins College from 2000 – 2012.
In 2006, Ms. Varga was named the PR Professional of the Year in the Academic Institution category of the Public Relations People Awards 2006 by PR News. She holds the designation of Accreditation in Public Relations (APR), a symbol of distinction and professionalism overseen by the Universal Accreditation Board and administered by the Public Relations Society of America.
Ms. Varga is a graduate of Rollins College. Her first day at Orange County will be on Monday, December 9, 2013.
