Enabling Legislation:
The initial resolution was adopted on September 18, 1973; a later Resolution No. 91-M-34 was adopted on July 8, 1991. Resolution No. 2006-M-26 was adopted on April 11, 2006, adding two members and changing the requirement for the senior representative.

Eleven members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.

Powers and Duties:
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board shall be strictly advisory in nature, but shall consider the present and future needs of the park system, including possible expansions or major capital improvements, and shall recommend definite park programs to the Board of County Commissioners.
The Board of County Commissioners may refer citizen requests to this board for review and recommendation. The Board should consider a long-range capital improvement program of at least 5 years to include both land acquisition, physical improvements, and the nature of activities to be offered in County parks.
