This section ensures that the air quality of Orange County meets standards set forth in the Federal Clean Air Act through permitting, compliance, monitoring, and outreach.

Permitting

The Air Quality Management section issues permits to regulate emmissions generated by facilities in Orange County.  These permits require facilities to comply with regulations established under the Environmental Protection Agency's (U.S. EPA) Clean Air Act (External Site), Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) (External Site), and Orange County's Ordinance.

Air Quality Management (AQM) staff routinely inspects and audits over 200 air permitted facilities within the County.  These facilities include hospitals, bakeries, dry cleaners, power plants, painting operations, defense plants and plastic manufacturing companies.

AQM staff also conduct asbestos inspections for buildings scheduled for renovation and demolition.  Contractors must submit a Notice for Demolition or Asbestos Renovation to the EPD at least 10 days prior to the commencement of a job.  For more information, please review the Demolition and Asbestos Renovation Guidance (PDF - 28KB).

Air Monitoring
horizontalbar

The Air Quality Management section operates four stationary air monitoring stations located throughout the County. Ambient air monitoring is performed for ozone, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, particulate matter and volatile organic compounds.
