Orange County Fleet Management, voted one of the 100 Best Fleets in North America,  is a modern up-to-date Division with a staff dedicated to the maintenance and repair of County equipment ranging from weed eaters to heavy construction excavators.  Fleet performs preventive and regular maintenance on all County vehicles and equipment, keeps detailed records of services performed, prepares replacement schedules, and coordinates vehicle inventory.

Utilizing computerized data, Fleet  tracks vehicle movement, usage, and cost statistics for each unit.  We maintain 24/7 on-call service for Emergency Response front-run units, back-up generators, stormwater pumping stations, as well as the county's thirteen (13) automated fueling sites.

In addition Fleet maintains satellite locations at Utilities Wastewater and Public Works, offers mobile repair service to Parks and Recreation, and provides welding, onsite heavy equipment and tire repairs to all County divisions.

Fleet Management's Carbon Footprint

Ethanol

Orange County Fleet  Management's effort to reduce our Carbon Footprint  began in early 1990  with  a 1988 S-10 pickup,  the  County's first solar powered electrical vehicle.  Since that time we have moved forward opening the County's first Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station, and now the first E-85 station is located at Fleet Management.

The County uses only alternative fuels at all thirteen (13) fueling locations.  All vehicles and equipment are fueled using biodiesel (B10 and B-20) and ethanol (E-10 and E-85.)  These fuels reduce our dependence on fossil fuels as well as reduce the emissions of  nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxides, hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, and particulate matter.

It makes good sense to integrate alternative fuels, hybrids, flex fuel, and biodiesel vehicles into the County's  Fleet.  Fleet continues to meet the challenge of a 20% reduction in fossil fuel usage.

Orange County was selected as one of the top twenty Public Sector Green Fleet Leaders in North America. In addition, Orange County Fleet received the Fleet Environmental Leadership Award for demonstrating our commitment and vision of ecologically responsible initiatives in the Fleet industry. In keeping with our commitment to the citizens of Orange County we will continue to protect the air quality in Central Florida while fulfilling our mission as "Green Fleet" ambassadors.

Resource Recovery

Recycling

Recycling - Fleet Management is committed to protecting the Central Florida environment by recovering and recycling the resources used at its maintenance facility. By recovering these resources, pollution and costs are substantially reduced. Some of the recovered resources are freon, ethylene glycol, waste oil, diesel oil, scrap metal, paper, used tires, oil filters, and batteries.
