Orange County Fleet Management's effort to reduce our Carbon Footprint began in early 1990 with a 1988 S-10 pickup, the County's first solar powered electrical vehicle. Since that time we have moved forward opening the County's first Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station, and now the first E-85 station is located at Fleet Management.
The County uses only alternative fuels at all thirteen (13) fueling locations. All vehicles and equipment are fueled using biodiesel (B10 and B-20) and ethanol (E-10 and E-85.) These fuels reduce our dependence on fossil fuels as well as reduce the emissions of nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxides, hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide, and particulate matter.
It makes good sense to integrate alternative fuels, hybrids, flex fuel, and biodiesel vehicles into the County's Fleet. Fleet continues to meet the challenge of a 20% reduction in fossil fuel usage.
Orange County was selected as one of the top twenty Public Sector Green Fleet Leaders in North America. In addition, Orange County Fleet received the Fleet Environmental Leadership Award for demonstrating our commitment and vision of ecologically responsible initiatives in the Fleet industry. In keeping with our commitment to the citizens of Orange County we will continue to protect the air quality in Central Florida while fulfilling our mission as "Green Fleet" ambassadors. |
