Certification: USGBC LEED Certified
Location: 7435 Winter Garden Vineland Road, Orlando
Design Team: C.T. HSU and Associates, P.A., Wharton-Smith, Inc., WBQ Design and Engineering, Advanced Structural Design, Bobes Associates Consulting Eng, Inc., Matern Professional Engineering, P.A., mai Landscape Architects, and Food Service Design Associates, Inc.

The Green technologies used and design elements new to this station are:

  • Revision of T-8 to T-5 light fixtures.  This will provide a significant reduction in energy use for lighting.
  • All irrigation is drip form.  Much of the plant material requires little water.
  • During construction at least 75% of construction waste stream is recycled or salvaged and diverted from the landfill.
  • The metal roof will have a high SRI to reduce the heat island effect.  This will help the climate reducing the heat island and will reduce cooling energy costs.
  • During design energy modeling was performed to increase the efficiency of the HVAC system.
  • Use of highly reflective concrete paving

The 23,000 square foot, $5.5 million Sheriff's Sector II office is scheduled for completion about November, 2009 and will earn the LEED Certified rating.  Energy conservation of 24.5% will be achieved with energy reducing building envelope design and hot water generation from a heat exchanger on the efficiently designed air conditioning system.  Interior electrical lighting demand will be reduced by the use of over 30 Solatubes throughout the building to provide natural lighting.  It is estimated that 75% of the construction waste will be diverted from the landfill, construction finish materials are targeted to have low or no VOC's, and many of the construction materials incorporated in the building will be of recycled materials and/or regionally manufactured.
