Geographic Information Systems (GIS) view and analyze data from a geographic perspective. GIS can be used to work with geographic information as a database, a map or a model. GIS analysts generate specialized maps and analyses to aid problem solving and support decision-making.
The GIS Section supports Growth Management Department and Emergency Response GIS needs including map and data requests and special projects. Staff also serves some Countywide functions, including the coordination of Countywide GIS and special requests from the Mayor's Office and Board of County Commissioners.
This section maintains data layers, the InfoMap interactive mapping system and a central GIS data repository, and is developing a Central Addressing System, to be integrated into a new Department-wide information system and shared database for GIS information (ALADIN). |
