The Medical Examiner needs your help. The District Nine Medical Examiner's Office has fifty decedents that have not been identified to date. These decedents span a time period of over thirty years. At time of death, some of the decedents were young, some were old, but all of them are just waiting for the lead to come into our office to help assist us in putting a name to that decedent. We believe with the help from the general public, we may just get the lead we so desperately are seeking.
In 2002 a web site was created to compile the unidentified decedents of the 24 Medical Examiners Offices of Florida. The web site, FLorida UnIdentified Decedents DataBase (FLUID Database), is linked to a database containing pertinent information. The database is openly searchable by the public, and it eliminates the need for families and law enforcement having to contact each office separately. This website was designed to help assist the public by providing the information we have available on our unknown decedents. When reviewing these cases, if you believe you have any information that will help assist us in identifying someone, please contact us with that information.
To date the FLUID Database website has been credited for assisting our office identify five decedents (2 from 1987, 2 from 1997, and 1 from 1998).
In addition to the FLUID Database, a national unidentifieds database (NamUs) is available to search. This website was developed and is maintained as a public service project of the National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) and the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners (IACME). It is designed to assist in the identification of deceased persons whose names and identities have not yet been established. It includes cases from throughout the United States.
We have included our unidentified decedents on both sites in the hopes of getting an identification.
