Orange County Fl., At approximately 5:50 a.m., Orange County Firefighters were dispatched to a house fire at 3220 Dawley Ave., in east Orange County. Fire crews arrived on the scene within 5 minutes and upon arrival found a single story residential structure that was approximately 40 % involved with fire and heavy smoke. The interior conditions of the structure were incompatible with sustaining life.
One crew immediately formulated an aggressive fire attack by deploying water lines to knockdown the fire while other crews entered the home to perform an extensive search. During the search, crews found a victim. The cause and origin of the fire is under review by investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
The first arriving crew stated they did not hear any smoke alarms sounding when they arrived on the scene. The Orange County Fire Rescue Department has long advocated the importance of having working smoke detectors. As part of this campaign, firefighters will be going door to door checking and installing new smoke detectors in neighboring residence surrounding the fire.
This year, the fall time daylight change takes place on Sunday, November 1. Orange County Firefighters urge every citizen to adopt a simple lifesaving habit: Change all of your Smoke Alarm batteries when you change you clocks back to Standard Time. Remember: Change, Check, Count and Clean your Smoke Detectors.
