Childhood Drowning Prevention
A Message from Mayor Richard T. Crotty
horizontalbar
Chairman Richard T. Crotty

Welcome to the Childhood Drowning Prevention website. Childhood drowning is the number one unintentional cause of death in Florida for children under the age of four. Orange County and Central Florida are richly blessed with many opportunities for recreational water use. We must direct our community efforts to prevent the loss of our most precious resource, our children, to drowning. Please join me in creating a water safe community.

On May 26, 2004, I announced the reinstatement of the Central Florida Drowning Prevention Task Force and charged the Task Force with the goal to reduce the number of children drowning in our community. As a father of two children, I certainly recognize the importance of teaching children water safety at an early age. Both of my children were exposed to water safety before they were two years old.
