High School graduate or equivalent and two years experience in multi-task environment. Must read, write, comprehend and speak English clearly. Must successfully pass a hearing test and a spelling test. Must be able to perform data entry at a high rate of speed. Must have a clear and easily understood voice.
Training
This position requires a very intensive training period of both classroom and on-the-job training. Much of this training requires independent study. The initial training period is up to twelve (12) months; a course in advanced first aid and telephone techniques for giving pre-arrival instructions will be provided. Must complete agency provided training within prescribed time limits of policy and procedure.
Preferences:
Experience in dispatch environment preferred but not required.
Bilingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.
State of Florida EMT certification preferred but not required.
Duties Include:
Answers computerized multi-line telephone system.
Process emergency and non-emergency calls.
Provides prearrival life saving medical instructions to callers.
Transmits and receives transmissions on a complex 800 MHz trunked radio system.
Make decisions as to categorization of emergencies received from 9-1-1 calls.
Strategic selection of emergency fire and/or rescue apparatus to accomplish the goals of saving lives and property.

Scheduled hours/shifts subject to changed. Must be able to work 12 hours rotating day and night shifts.
Must successfully pass a job based assessment test which measures data entry speed, accuracy, memory, and ability to listen, think and react simultaneously. Ability to remain calm under highly stressful conditions.
Must be able to recall information from memory, and make critical decisions under extreme time pressure.
Must be able to remain calm and professional under extremely stressful situations.
