Frequently Asked Questions

When is Orange County Health Services testing site open?
The Free Drive-Thru Rapid Testing Site at Barnett Park opens daily (seven days per week) at 9 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m., weather permitting. It is only open to Orange County residents – but it is open to all residents who live anywhere in the County. This site will not be open on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
What does the drive-thru testing process entail?
Patients will not exit their vehicle. Please note: You must be in a vehicle and this site is not pedestrian/bike friendly. As vehicles enter the site, residents will move to individual registration. Following this, samples will be collected, and individuals will be informed on what to expect regarding the testing process, etc.
Do I need insurance?
No. All individuals will be tested regardless of insurance status. However, individuals with insurance should bring their information. Please note, no co-pays will be required of individuals who bring their insurance.
Does this test cost money?
This is a free public resource to all Orange County residents.
I am a tourist from outside the United States and I have symptoms. May I get tested?
For individuals outside Orange County or if you are visiting the County, please go to State Regional Testing Drive-Thu site at the Orange County Convention Center. Click on #2 on the map for details.
When will I receive my results?
Rapid antigen tests takes less than an hour and you will receive the test results back in about that time period in a phone/text/email. PCR test results are available in about two to three days.
How should I know if I need to get tested?
Although you do not need to have any symptoms to be tested at an Orange County Health Services site, the CDC offers this guidance on who should be tested, including:
  • If you are having cold-like symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, fevers, chills, headaches, nausea, vomiting or body aches.
  • If you have been in close contact (less than 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more) with someone with documented infection of COVID-19
    • Please note: A single negative test does not mean you will remain negative at any point and time after the test
  • If you do not have COVID-19 symptoms and have not been in close contact (less than 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more) you do not need a test unless recommended or required by your healthcare provider or public health official.
What type of test should I get?
As far as the type of test to get, please review this article about the different types of tests. From an accuracy standpoint, PCR/molecular tests are the gold standard and are recommended by medical professionals. Antigen test results do arrive faster, however if you are symptomatic there may be a possibility for a false negative. If you have symptoms and test negative for an antigen test, you should still get a PCR/molecular test to ensure you do not have COVID. Also, if you know you have had exposure to someone with COVID, you should get tested.
What if I test positive for my results?
If you test positive for COVID 19, you will be contacted by a representative from the testing site and a representative from the Florida Department of Health for contact tracing. Meanwhile, the most important thing you can do is monitor your health and slow the spread of the virus by isolating from others. Ideally, you should isolate yourself if you are able to manage your symptoms at home. For more information, read Orange County’s newsroom story about COVID-19 Self-Isolation Tips and whether you should recover at home or go to a hospital.

Additional Test Sites

The following testing sites are operated by private corporations and may charge fees. Please check with your primary care provider for additional options.

Antibody Testing

  • OneBlood is testing all blood donations for the COVID-19 antibody. The test is authorized by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and will indicate if the donor’s immune system has produced antibodies to the virus, regardless of whether they ever showed symptoms. Appointments to donate are required. Visit www.oneblood.org/donate-now for more information.

Have You Recovered from COVID-19? You Can Help Save Lives

People who have recovered from COVID-19 have antibodies in their blood that may help treat people who have recently contracted the virus. Patients can receive plasma treatment for COVID-19. This treatment, however, needs the help of eligible Americans to donate their plasma. Do your part to help fight against the COVID-19 pandemic – find out more information at the CDC’s webpage.
