Frequently Asked Questions

When is Orange County Health Services testing site open?
The free Drive-Thru Testing Site at Barnett Park opens daily (seven days per week) at 9 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m., weather permitting.
What does the drive-thru testing process entail?
You will not need to exit your vehicle. As vehicles enter the site, you will move to individual registration. Following this, samples will be collected, and you will be informed on what to expect regarding the testing process, etc.
Do I need insurance?
No. You will be tested regardless of insurance status. However, individuals with insurance should bring their information. Please note, no co-pays will be required of individuals who bring their insurance. Pre-registration is required, but appointments are not necessary.
Does this test cost money?
No.
When will I receive my results?
Rapid antigen tests takes less than an hour and you will receive the test results back in about that time period in a phone/text/email. PCR test results are available in about two to three days.
How should I know if I need to get tested?
Although you do not need to have any symptoms to be tested at an Orange County Health Services site, the CDC offers this guidance on who should be tested, including:
  • If you are having cold-like symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, fevers, chills, headaches, nausea, vomiting or body aches.
  • If you have been in close contact (less than 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more) with someone with documented infection of COVID-19
    • Please note: A single negative test does not mean you will remain negative at any point and time after the test
  • If you do not have COVID-19 symptoms and have not been in close contact (less than 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more) you do not need a test unless recommended or required by your healthcare provider or public health official.
What type of test should I get?
As far as the type of test to get, please review this article about the different types of tests. From an accuracy standpoint, PCR/molecular tests are the gold standard and are recommended by medical professionals. Antigen test results do arrive faster, however if you are symptomatic there may be a possibility for a false negative.
What if I test positive for my results?
If you test positive for COVID 19, you will be contacted by a representative from the testing site and a representative from the Florida Department of Health for contact tracing. Meanwhile, the most important thing you can do is monitor your health and slow the spread of the virus by isolating from others. Ideally, you should isolate yourself if you are able to manage your symptoms at home. For more information, read Orange County’s newsroom story about COVID-19 Self-Isolation Tips and whether you should recover at home or go to a hospital.
