Orange County is currently pursuing Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) project funds to create a county-wide disaster resilience and vulnerability plan and build the capacity of the 13 Orange County cities and towns. The project will engage community non-profits, businesses and vulnerable populations in order to integrate the Orange County’s Emergency Management Plan, Post Disaster Response Plan, Long-Term Mitigation Strategy, Communication Plan, Comprehensive Plan, and Resilience Action Plan. An ALL disaster approach is necessary in the integration of these planning initiatives to focus on all phases of a disaster, i.e. Prevention, Preparedness, Response and Recovery.

With $20 million in Community Development Block Grant - Mitigation (CDBG-MIT) funding, the Rebuild Florida General Planning Support Program is designed to provide funding opportunities to units of general local government (UGLG), educational institutions, state agencies, and non-profits for the purpose of developing and updating state, regional and local plans. The funds are allocated through the U.S. Housing and Urban Development’s newly created Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) – Mitigation Program formed in response to the 2016 to 2017 presidentially declared disasters.
