Boil Water Advisories

Orange County Utilities is committed to providing safe drinking water. Occasionally, unforeseen emergencies may result in a loss of water pressure or power at our facilities, which could compromise water quality. If necessary, Orange County Utilities will issue a boil water advisory.

If you are notified that your area is under a boil water advisory, you should boil all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes prior to use. Follow the directions below and continue until Orange County announces the water system is cleared (at least 48 hours) and safe to drink.

  • Strain water through a clean cloth into a container to remove any sediment or floating matter. If water is clear, omit this step.
  • Boil water VIGOROUSLY (rolling boil) for at least ONE FULL MINUTE.
  • To improve the taste, add a pinch of salt to each quart of boiled water or pour it back and forth from one clean container to another several times.

You can call the Boil Water Hotline at (407) 254-9670 for information on the status of a boil water advisory.

Sewer Backups/Odors

If the sewer starts backing up into your house or if you have a sewer odor in your home, first:

  1. Call a certified plumber.
  2. If the plumber determines the problem is in the County right-of-way, call (407) 836-2777. If the problem is located on the County side of the system and the cause is related to the County's activities, you may be eligible for reimbursement of plumber expenses. Please keep the certified plumber's receipt. Orange County is not responsible for sewer lines on private property.
